Never Sign as Responsible Party at Your Parent's Nursing Home Without Reading This

If you're signing your mom into a nursing home, slow down on one line: responsible party. Under federal rules, a nursing home that takes Medicare or Medicaid can't require a family member to personally guarantee the bill as a condition of admission. It can ask the person who manages her money to sign and pay from HER funds. That's very different from paying from yours. Read every line with your name next to it.
