You have two addresses. Only one of them counts as your legal home. That one decides which state's law governs your estate plan, which court your family would deal with, and whether your healthcare paperwork gets honored at a hospital. Those requirements are written state by state and they differ more than people expect. Most folks assume it comes down to wherever they spend the most nights. It is actually decided by ordinary things. Where your license was issued, where you vote, where your mail goes, where your doctor and your bank are. What I see most often is somebody splitting the year and leaving all of that scattered across two states, so the question never gets answered until the week the family needs an answer.
