Power of attorney legal documents
Your decisions. Your person. Your terms.

Powers of Attorney

If you can't make decisions for yourself, someone will. A Power of Attorney lets you choose who that person is and exactly what they can do.

Choose Who Speaks for You.

Imagine being in a car accident tomorrow. You survive, but you are unconscious for three weeks. During that time, your mortgage payment is due. Your investment account needs attention. Decisions about your medical care need to be made.

Who has the legal authority to act on your behalf? Without a Power of Attorney, the answer is no one: not your spouse, not your adult children, not your closest friend. Your family would need to petition the court for guardianship, a process that can take months and cost thousands of dollars.

A Power of Attorney is the one document most people do not think about until it is too late. By then, the only option is a court process that costs more and takes longer than anyone expects.

Durable vs. Springing

Arizona recognizes two types of Financial Powers of Attorney. A durable POA takes effect immediately and remains in force if you become incapacitated. A springing POA only activates when a specific triggering event occurs, such as a physician certifying that you can no longer make decisions for yourself.

At RJP, every Power of Attorney is professionally prepared and tailored to your specific situation. You decide who acts for you, when they can act, and exactly how much authority they have.

30 in 100

Working Adults

Will experience a disability before retirement. Without a POA, no one has the legal authority to act on their behalf.

Social Security Administration

Two Documents. Two Critical Roles.

Each Power of Attorney covers a different part of your life. Most people need both.

Financial Power of Attorney

Your Money, Bills, and Property

Names the person who can manage your banking, pay your bills, handle your investments, and manage your real estate if you are unable to do so. You choose whether it takes effect immediately (durable) or only when triggered by incapacity (springing).

Medical Power of Attorney

Your Healthcare Decisions

Names the person who can make healthcare decisions on your behalf, including end-of-life care, surgical consent, and treatment preferences. Works best when paired with a Living Will that spells out your specific wishes.

Who Needs a Power of Attorney

If you own assets, run a business, or have people who depend on you, this document is essential.

Homeowners and Property Owners

If you are incapacitated, no one can sell, refinance, or manage your real estate without a Financial POA. Your property sits frozen until a court intervenes.

Married Couples

Spouses cannot automatically access each other's financial accounts or make medical decisions without written authorization. A POA solves this.

Aging Parents

As your health changes, having a POA already in place prevents an expensive and stressful court process later.

Business Owners

If you are incapacitated, someone needs legal authority to keep your business running, pay employees, and manage contracts.
